Alex Conquers 3 Peaks for Bryony
Alex Whitlock, from Cannock has conquered the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for the Forget-me-Not Ward at Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Joined by his friends from Central Staffs Crossfit and support by his team at Stoke Audi, Alex decided to go for a real challenge to raise as much as possible and conquering the Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours seemed one of the hardest challenges to take up, it means climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis peaks, and all the travelling in-between, in 24 hours or less.
Alex explains, “I had the best, and the worst, reason to want to raise money for the Forget-me-Not Ward; our beautiful baby girl, Bryony was born sleeping in August 2018”.
“It wasn’t expected and was a total shock, not just for Shell and I, but for the whole family, if it weren’t for the quiet care and compassion from the Forget-me-Not nurses, I don’t know how we’d have coped. This special ward and these very special people meant that we had priceless time together as a family, something we will never forget”.
“When something like this happens, you start to find out that it happens to many more families than you realise; 9 babies a day, which is around 1 in 200 are born sleeping and so, it seemed right to give something back”, added Alex.
Alex and his Crossfit team-mates trained for 4 months before taking on the challenge and although three of them didn’t make it to the end, Alex did complete it in 23 hours and 33 minutes.
Alex works for local, family-owned Swansway Motor Group who were right behind his fund-raising efforts as director, David Smyth explained, “As a dad of three myself, it’s hard to even imagine how having baby born sleeping must feel; the emotions, the sadness, it’s unbearable to even think about, so to say we’re proud of Alex and what he’s done to honour Bryony is an understatement”.
Alex has raised over £2,500 so far.
