Vitality Homes - Liverpool's new supported living centre - set to welcome first residents next week
Vitality Homes - the recovery living centre based on Wavertree Road - will welcome its first set of residents next week.
The venue will provide accommodation and 24-hour support for people who have overcome addiction and have a record of abstinence before arriving at Vitality Homes. It will focus on helping to integrate those people back into society through supported living.
Earlier this year, businesswoman Kate Stewart announced her plans for the former Cuffs site, showcasing her passion for helping people transform their lives and turn them around for the better.
Having personally experiencing the devastating effects of substance abuse and alcoholism within her family, Kate embarked on creating Vitality Homes as she believes that whilst there are numerous places for rehabilitation and helping people to initially become sober, once they have completed the first programme there isn’t always enough support to ensure they stay committed to their sobriety.
Vitality Homes’ Head of Service, Jacquie Johnston Lynch, has years of experience within the industry and has been working tirelessly to involve the wider community, answering any of their questions and building relationships to create a broad mix of activities that service users can take part in.
Jacquie said: “We’re really excited to welcome our first set of residents next week and have created mini programmes for them so that they feel connected and have a sense of belonging. The building is almost ready and is complete with communal areas and individual bedrooms to ensure that our guests have a balance between their independence and socialising with others.
“We encourage our residents to lead active lives and we will be supporting them to take active roles within the community and to attend theatre trips and cycling activities to name a few, and we want to be really involved with anything going on in the area.
“Recently, we’ve had a really positive response from the local community with people offering to host cooking classes at Vitality Homes, or to bake fresh scones for the residents. It’s really heart-warming to see people supporting the work that we’re doing here and appreciating that our aim is to help people turn their lives around long-term.”
Vitality Homes will have encouraging quotes painted onto the walls and one resident of the local community suggested including the poem on the Picton Clock, creating a link between the supported accommodation and the Wavertree area.
Jacquie has chosen for “Time wasted is existence; used is life” part of the poem to be included, and it will be displayed on the walls to remind service users to keep progressing on their meaningful individual journeys.
Vitality Homes will be fully complete later this summer.
