Engineering firm lands £42m Northumberland schools and leisure contract
A national engineering specialist has been appointed to a multi-million pound contract to develop new joint schools and leisure facilities in Northumberland.
SES Engineering Services (SES) has won the contract to deliver a new £42m facility in Ponteland, just north of Newcastle, on behalf of Kier Regional Building.
The project will connect three buildings in a crescent, forming a joint facility catering for a total of 2,046 nursery, primary and secondary age students.
The site will comprise learning spaces alongside a range of new community facilities including a library, swimming pool, fitness suite, sports courts, a ’Clip ‘n Climb’ wall and a soft play area, a full size 3G pitch and sports fields.
In addition to the education and leisure amenities, a new fire station will also form part of the development.
SES’ operations director of North East, Michael Dickinson, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Kier Regional Building on such a major education project for the region.
“Our extensive experience within both the education and blue light sectors will be key to the smooth delivery of the development.”
Peter Jackson, leader of Northumberland County Council, added: “I am sure that SES will be a superb addition to the top team that is constructing our ground-breaking development at Ponteland.
“We are looking forward to providing top class, state-of-the-art facilities in the two new schools and the leisure and community facilities on the site - and high quality mechanical and electrical services - will be key to these.”
