HSBC UK boosts Yorkshire law firm with six-figure funding

A law firm has opened a new Wakefield office with the support of a six-figure funding package from HSBC UK.

Newtons Solicitors, founded in 2009 by Knaresborough-based solicitor, Chris Newton, offers legal services for private, commercial and agricultural clients.

London-headquartered HSBC UK’s funding has enabled the firm to purchase a new 3,000 sq ft office at Calder Park, on the outskirts of Wakefield.

The new premises gives Newtons the platform to further tap into West Yorkshire’s buoyant commercial property market, as well as providing its full range of legal services to customers in the Wakefield area.

Chris Newton, managing director of Newtons Solicitors, said: “We strategically hired our new team for their expertise and reputations.

“Wakefield is a fantastic opportunity for us and the level of new client instructions and support so far show us that the office will be a great success. We are delighted to expand our profile and work with the people and businesses of Wakefield.”

The firm’s new office will be initially home to four solicitors - Roy Cusworth, Daniel Hilton, Helen Thompson and Holly Buxton - who have been recently recruited by Newtons.

In addition, Newtons expects to create more than 25 new jobs, including solicitors, support teams and compliance officers, at its Wakefield office. It is also set to increase its total turnover by 20 per cent within the next two years.

Andrew Yeomans, commercial manager for North & West Yorkshire, HSBC UK, added: “Newtons Solicitors has over 10 very successful years of experience so we are pleased to support the further growth as we have done since the business was a new startup.

“West Yorkshire’s economy is continuing to grow and Newtons’ new office is well-place to capitalise on the opportunities available.”
