Yorkshire Children's Charity Benefits from Miller Homes Sporting Fund

A Yorkshire based children’s charity that offers wheelchair activities and sports coaching has been named the winner of a competition, Spring into Sport, by leading housebuilder Miller Homes.

Miller Homes opened the sporting competition to clubs, teams and individuals across the region to win a cheque for £500. The housebuilder was inundated with entries ranging from established clubs looking to make investments into sporting equipment to new teams needing a little help to get started.

“It was so pleasing to see the varied applications we had and to see that sport in Yorkshire is flourishing across so many platforms,” said Sarah Whinfrey regional sales manager Miller Homes Yorkshire. “We thank everyone for taking to the time to enter but were just overwhelmed by the Go Kids Go entry and had no option but to choose them as our winner.”

Go Kids Go, who has received the £500 donation, is a charity based in Beverley, East Yorkshire that provides wheelchair skills training for young wheelchair users throughout the country. It equips children with the skills to become independently mobile so that they can enjoy the same activities as their able-bodied peers and participate in sport.

It was formerly known as Association of Wheelchair Children which in turn came out of The Newham Rollers - a local activities group for wheelchair-using children, which operated in the East End of London in the late 1980s. Since then it has helped literally thousands of wheelchair using children and their families.

Vicki Hone, fundraising manager Go Kids Go commented; “We are delighted to have been the winner in this year’s competition and look forward to increasing the number of courses in the Yorkshire area and continuing to introduce children at a very young age to the enjoyment that wheelchair sports can bring.”
