Indie Darlington luxury retailer receives six-figure investment from HSBC
Darlington homeware retailer Seymour’s Home has fitted out its new showroom with support from HSBC UK.
Founded in 1957 by the Borlant family, the independent retailer supplies homeware, including bath linen, wallpaper and furniture, to UK customers and others including China, US and Australia.
With the backing of HSBC UK, the business has fitted out its new 2,400 sq ft showroom on Darlington’s fashionable Grange Road - only 500 yards from its previous premises - with a new specially designed and bespoke manufactured shop fit.
Following the move, Seymour’s Home expects to create two new jobs in its sales team in the next year.
Jeremy Borlant, managing partner of Seymour’s Home, said: “We’ve been in Darlington for 62 years and over that period we’ve seen our market change significantly.
“Although we’ve been selling online, alongside our physical shop, for over a decade, bricks and mortar retail is still key to our business model and this is reflected by our investment in our new store in the heart of Darlington.
“This store, coupled with its consolidated warehouse, has positioned us well to delight customers from Darlington and around the UK as well as those in our markets around the world including Sydney, Shanghai and Seattle.”
Seymour’s Home was founded by Seymour Borlant and is now run by his son Jeremy.
Since emerging, it stocks various luxury products, including brands like Brinkhaus, Baobab Collection, Porta Romana, Peter Reed and Reflex.
Stephen Smith, relationship manager for business banking at HSBC UK, added: “HSBC UK is committed to supporting the growth of local businesses in the North and beyond, so we’re pleased to be backing Seymour’s Home’s growth.
“The store is a stalwart of Darlington’s retail scene and it is encouraging to see a bricks and mortar retailer expanding and winning new customers at home and around the world. We wish them every success for the future.”
