£5m care home transformation set to create over 50 jobs
Work is underway on a £5m makeover of a therapy-led care home in Cleveland which will create more than 50 jobs.
Situated in Eston between Middlesbrough and Redcar, the Meadowgate Centre is undergoing a full refurbishment following its sale by care provider Bupa.
The 40-bed intermediate care centre, which has been acquired by Redcar & Cleveland Council, aims to prevent hospital admission, supporting patient recovery and the regaining of independence following a stay in hospital.
Expected to be completed later this year, the refurbished facility will include a reablement unit to help patients regain independence, an assessment and recovery unit for those whose recovery may take longer, an independent living centre offering advice and guidance as well as office space for staff.
Redcar & Cleveland Council cabinet Member for adult social care, Cllr Mary Ovens commented: “The council are committed to meeting the needs of the area’s ageing population to help them live fulfilled, independent and happy lives.
“The new centre in Eston will help to meet the increase in demand for rehabilitation and reablement services as well as reducing hospital admissions, enabling timely discharge from hospital and ensuring people are receiving the care that they need.”
