Martin-Brooks roofer makes finals of training award
An apprentice from Sheffield roofing specialists, Martin-Brooks, is in the running for a top award celebrating the achievements of local workplace learners.
Frederico Meehan Ashton has been shortlisted in the Construction and Technical Apprentice of the Year category at this year’s Training Awards, run by Sheffield City Council.
The second year Martin-Brooks trainee is studying for an NVQ level two in roofing at Sheffield College and was nominated for the award by his tutor, after demonstrating outstanding commitment to learning and progress in the workplace.
Federico will be attending the awards ceremony, held at Sheffield Town Hall on July 18, with Martin-Brooks’ contracts director, Dale Wright. He will be collecting a ‘supportive employer’ certificate on behalf of the firm, recognising how important the backing of local businesses is to the future of apprentices.
Dale said: “Frederico has a fantastic attitude to developing his skills and is proving to be a talented young roofer, who is popular with his colleagues and mentors on site. We are really pleased to see his efforts recognised by Sheffield College and the council and are very proud that he is among just a handful of young learners shortlisted for these awards.”
This is the second consecutive year a Martin-Brooks apprentice has been shortlisted for the council’s Training Awards, which are organised by its employment and skills service, Opportunity Sheffield. Fellow trainee roofer, Korneliusz Kasa, won the Construction and Technical category in 2018.
