Ilkley Carnival a success once again!

Ilkley Carnival 2019 has raised £14,900 to help support local organisations and the development of Ilkley Town Football Club’s current facilities. The May Day event saw over 9,000 people through the gates to celebrate the annual community extravaganza.

The success of the event has been announced by chairman of the committee of volunteers, Andrew Stacey and applauded by primary beneficiary Ilkley Town FC, who will receive half of the event’s profits to help cover the installation of a new all-weather spectator shelter and the refurbishment of changing rooms and showers.

The remaining half of the profits will go towards other local causes, including Bradford Olympian Trampoline Club, Ilkley Grammar School, Ilkley Rugby Club, 1st Ben Rhydding Scouts, Ben Rhydding Sports Club and Ilkley Gym Club.

Andrew said: “Yet again, the carnival was a great success which saw a record-breaking number of people in the parade! The committee is amazed at the community spirit and thrilled to make a positive impact to many people through supporting Ilkley Town FC.”

Richard Giles, Ilkley Town Football Club Chairman, added: “The funds raised are going to make a transformative difference not only to the club, but also the wider community. Many generations will benefit from this donation and we can’t wait to get started on these projects!”

The parade saw a range of eye-catching home-made costumes from donkeys to ballerinas for the ‘Shows and Musicals’ theme. Sacred Heart Primary School won the ‘best in show’ parade prize for their colourful Joseph and The Technicolour Dreamcoat costumes.

Speaking about the impact of the funds raised for Ilkley Town Football Club, Richard added: “Increasing participation at the club is a real goal for us and we hope these improvements to our facilities will encourage people to come and watch games as well as play!”
