Interserve scoops up £5.8m medical school contract for University of York
International support services firm Interserve Group has secured a £5.8m contract to build the University of York’s medical school facilities.
The firm has won the contract to build the university’s Hull York Medical School, including a complete redesign of the existing site and the development of new clinical skills spaces in the Seebohm Rowntree Building.
Following the medical school being awarded 90 additional undergraduate medicine places as part of a government initiative, the new facility will comprise problem-based learning suites and collaborative learning spaces for students, with close proximity to the growing Health Professions Education Unit.
It follows the announcement that Hull York Medical School was awarded an additional 90 undergraduate medicine places as part of the Government’s expansion of undergraduate medical education.
Professor Brian Fulton, dean of the faculty of sciences at the University of York commented: “We are delighted to be working with Interserve and colleagues across the Medical School and University to develop facilities for medicine students and in doing so explore opportunities for students across health disciplines to train side by side.”
The contract marks the seventh medical business win secured by the firm in the past 12 months, with a combined value of over £130m.
John Gittins, division director at Interserve, explained: “We are delighted to once again be working with the Hull York Medical School having previously delivered the new Piazza building at the York and the Allam Medical Building in Hull.
“These facilities have provided inspirational spaces to work and study for staff and students and underscore Interserve’s expertise and capability in the education and healthcare sector.”
