Abseil Takes Fundraising to New Heights

Brave team members from Co-op Funeralcare branches in Hounslow, Richmond and Whitton have taken part in a charity abseil to raise money for their local scout’s troop and renovate All Hallows Church.

Six colleagues from Co-op Funeralcare completed the 104ft abseil, which is a third of the length of the town’s famous rugby pitch.

The event raised £2,100 in total and will help to fund the local scout troop’s next adventure as well as renovating the bells in the church tower.

The Twickenham Scout’s troop is looking to send two members to the World Jamboree – an educational event held in the US and attended by scouts from all over the world to promote peace and mutual understanding.

Nationally, the Scout’s Association engages with over 460,000 young people in the UK, helping six to 25 year olds develop key skills including resilience, initiative, and leadership through a program of exciting activities.

Maria Adams, Funeral Arranger at Hounslow Co-op Funeralcare, says ‘The team are so proud that they’ve faced their fears and tackled the abseil challenge head-on. It was a nerve-racking experience, but we were all in it together and being able to support the local scouts and help preserve All Hallows Church made it all worthwhile!’

Laura Saunders, Funeral Arranger at Whitton Co-op Funeralcare, comments: ‘We’re always looking for ways to support our local community groups and the work the scouts do for youths in the area is fantastic. We’re really focused on building links, as we’ve done here, with the community and I’m incredibly proud of my colleagues for taking the plunge for such a great cause!’
With over 1,000 funeral homes across the UK, the Co-op Funeralcare colleagues are passionate about delivering a sensitive, caring and professional service for families within their community.

Thanks to Co-op’s 1% scheme, a total of £19m has been raised for key local causes across the UK since November 2017.
