Steve Stands Up For RNLI
Steve Dodd from Cannock, who’s a member of Central SUP, stood up for the RNLI as he spent 8 hours Stand up Paddling to raise money for the RNLI.
As Steve explained, “I’m a very keen Stand up Paddler, despite the issues I have with my back, so when this challenge was suggested, I knew I had to stand up and be counted”!
“The RNLI do an amazing job, saving lives, whilst risking their own, and all in their own time, unpaid and unfunded. Whenever I’m at the coast I always pop to the local RNLI to donate and to thank the wonderful volunteers who save around 23 people every day. They receive no funding from government whatsoever, so I knew I had to help even though I knew my bad back would mean I’d suffer”!
Steve paddled 58 kilometres in 8 hours from Tamworth to Swarkstone in Derbyshire and was supported in his endeavour by his employer, Stafford Audi, part of family-owned Swansway Motor Group which supports every employee who takes part in a fund-raising event.
Swansway director, David Smyth, commented, “We’re so proud of Steve, who didn’t think about himself, but thought about the others he would help through his efforts. Well done to Steve and to Central SUP for taking on a really difficult challenge and succeeding. I’m sure the RNLI are absolutely delighted”.
