Eddisons student placement programme expands
Property consultant Eddisons has appointed two placement-year students from the BSc building surveying course at Sheffield Hallam University.
Ben Lewis and Tom Green, who are both in the third year of their degree, have joined the firm’s growing building and project consultancy team, led nationally by partner Ian Harrington. The double hire marks an expansion for Eddisons’ student placement programme, which traditionally appoints one building surveying student each year to work with the firm for 12 months, before returning to university to complete the final year of their degree.
Ian Harrington said: “The building and project consultancy team is particularly busy at present with over £20m of improvement projects to deliver for schools and so it made perfect sense for us to appoint two students this year. We are really pleased to welcome Ben and Tom to join our team: they are both extremely high-calibre candidates and have done brilliantly to be selected.”
He added: “We work with universities across the north of England, especially Sheffield Hallam, Leeds Beckett and Northumbria University. It’s essential to the future and quality of surveying in this country that firms like Eddisons provide a third year placement to building surveying undergraduates as part of their four-year course.
“The skills and hands-on experience students gain in the workplace is invaluable to their future career. The students Eddisons takes on almost always return to us as graduates to take up a role at Eddisons so our student placement programme also delivers great continuity for us as a firm and is very often the first step in a long-term relationship with these talented young people.”
Earlier this year Eddisons’ building and project consultancy team secured more than £20m to improve buildings, safety and energy efficiency at 50 schools across the UK under the Government’s Condition Improvement Fund programme. The team are also currently working with schools and colleges to help them secure funding from the Salix fund for projects that improve energy efficiency.
More recently the firm has been appointed to the Homes England Framework, deigned to help speed up housebuilding across England.
