First look at £7.5m Ouseburn residential regeneration scheme
Plans for the £7.5m regeneration of a site in Ouseburn overlooking the River Tyne have been submitted.
If successful, a derelict site off St Lawrence Road to the east of the Free Trade Inn could be transformed into a new apartment complex.
Plans drawn up by McLundie Geddes Architects and supported by Hedley Planning Services will see the construction of 50 one, two, three and four bedroomed apartments in a multi-storey scheme, which would create upwards of 50 construction jobs.
The development is the latest project to be proposed for the riverside area, following the recent approval of the Whey Aye development and the submission of plans for a hospitality project at the Baltic Quarter.
Sean Hedley of Hedley Planning Services commented: “Redevelopment of St Lawrence Road will unquestionably make a meaningful and significant contribution to the local and wider economy, both during the construction and long after families have moved in.
“As planners, we are always keen to see the green light for much needed, quality and sensible housing development.
“This project ticks all the boxes, and is sure to leave a long-lasting legacy, contributing significantly to an important part of Newcastle.”
