Job vacancies up 3% across the West Midlands

Permanent professional vacancies increased 3% across the West Midlands year-on-year in June 2019. That is according to research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo).

The data, provided by recruitment software company, Innovantage, also reveals demand for contract science & technology professionals increased by 31% during the same period. There was also a notable rise in vacancies in the accounting & finance sector, with roles up by 21%.

Commenting on the data, Julie Selby, Regional Account Manager at APSCo said:

“It’s fantastic to see that the region is experiencing such high levels of job growth. The science & technology sector is performing particularly well, which is no surprise as Birmingham is one of the largest tech hotspots outside of London, home to around 3000 tech businesses which generate over £2 billion for the local economy. In fact, the city boasts more developers, programmers and software architects than any other regional city in the UK. And with the West Midlands’ 20 universities containing 100 tech-related centres of excellence turning out over 110,000 students every year, the availability of skills to meet the growing demand looks set to remain strong.”
