20 jobs created in £350k Newcastle city centre bar transformation

The large-scale renovation of a North East high street bar worth £350k is set to be revealed for the first time this August Bank Holiday.

Creating 20 full and part time jobs with its imminent opening, Market Shaker, on Cloth Market in Newcastle, aims to provide a new creative space offering all-day eating, drinking and dancing, with mixologist Josh Callon overseeing the creation of its bespoke cocktail menu.

The property, located in the previous Ember Lounge premises, was acquired by the former founders of pubs Jam Jar and The Dog & Parrot earlier this year and has undergone a back-to-core internal rip out, producing 20 tonnes of rubble.

The interior of the venue has been designed in-house and features extensive natural lighting, with a large beer garden to the rear. The work has been carried out exclusively by regional tradespeople.

Market Shaker owner, Rob Clarkson, said “We wanted to come together to establish a destination that offers a fantastic place to meet, eat and drink alongside great music. Music can make or break a night out and is so very often overlooked, so curating one hell of a playlist is something we felt very strongly about.

“We are hoping that Market Shaker will be a further catalyst in the rejuvenation of the Cloth Market by offering a quality, independent bar and somewhere new to hang-out in the city centre.

“Whether it’s for a mid-afternoon coffee, drink after work, kicking back in the all-weather beer garden or dancing into the early morning, we’ve got it covered.”
