Huddersfield business group launched to attract inward investment

A plan to attract inward investment to the town of Huddersfield has been set in motion after the launch of a new local organisation.

Huddersfield Unlimited, which is made up of leaders from businesses, the public sector and the University, has been set up to help achieve the ‘ambitious’ plans laid out in the local Council’s newly released Blueprint and 2030 vision for the town centre.

The group has set out its short and medium-term objectives to boost the town’s local economy as a way of delivering the vision, and says its ultimate aim is to establish Huddersfield as a ‘great town’ in the North.

The team will work together to lobby on behalf of the town when it comes to regional and national decisions on issues such as funding, transport, arts or sport. It will also actively support regeneration in the town centre and across the district, and will work to boost its connections with neighbouring cities Leeds and Manchester.

Huddersfield Unlimited chairman, Sir John Harman, said: “Huddersfield Unlimited stands up for Huddersfield. We have come together - local business and community leaders, with support from the University and the Council - because we want to see the town thrive.

“We encourage the businesses of Huddersfield to discover more about the organisation, and how they can play a part in enhancing Huddersfield’s growth.”

The organisation has already received support from local businesses such as SimplyBiz, Brewfitt, Ramsdens, Stafflex, John L Brierley, Thornhill Estates, and the University of Huddersfield, amongst others.

It will soon reveal its local ambassadors and announce its events planned in the autumn, which are aimed at attracting the interest of investors to Huddersfield.
