Former apprentice promoted to business development manager

A NEWCASTLE printing company’s first administration apprentice has progressed to becoming business development manager for the firm within just five years, as the company continues with its plans for growth.

23-year-old Natasha Scott is now in charge of driving Large Print Works’ development plans, following the announcement last month of its near quarter of a million pound investment into new state-of-the-art printers at its Ouseburn-based unit.

Having supported Natasha to complete her City & Guilds NVQ level two in business administration within her first year as part of Newcastle Council’s ‘City Learning’ scheme, managing director John Laidler recognised her potential.

Mr Laidler explained: “To start as an apprentice and progress to business development manager across the entire company with the responsibility that entails is testament to Natasha’s work ethic as well as her approach to learning and gaining experience. She is also a good example of our belief in the long-term investment of employees through education and training.

“Investing in new printers means we can undertake larger scale projects in a faster turnaround time so it was the perfect time to look to develop and expand the team and as Natasha has been with us for so long and knows the business inside out, we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving and fitting for the role,” he added.

The new role has seen Large Print Works fill Natasha’s former role, expanding the team to nine with the addition of new recruit 23-year-old Charlotte Humble.

Mr Laidler continued: “Our investment is already starting to pay off not only with a healthy looking forecast but being able to create job opportunities for more young people who we can nurture throughout their careers.”

The £230,000 investment formed part of the business growth plan to increase its turnover by 25% across 2019.

Natasha said: “I am really looking forward to my new role and bringing new ideas and processes to the business. I’m definitely a people person and very passionate about the company so it feels like the perfect move for my career as well as playing a part in taking the business to new heights.”

Established in 1988, Large Print Works, formerly The Rip, has continuously developed and expanded its offerings.
