Latest £3m self-storage unit in York set to create new jobs for local area
A new 50,000 sq ft self-storage centre in York is currently under construction due to be completed in March 2020.
McCarthy’s, a local family business which specialises in removals and storage, has invested £3m into its first purpose-built McCarthy’s Storage World self-storage facility. It is located on the site of a former grain store on Water Lane, Clifton Without.
McCarthy’s currently has self storage centres in Leeds, Harrogate and Wakefield. The new storage centre will offer self storage to both businesses and individuals, with units ranging in size from 16 sq ft to 500 sq ft. It could also create several new jobs.
Mike McCarthy, McCarthy’s managing director, said: “We’re delighted that work has commenced on our new McCarthy’s Storage World facility in York.
“We had been looking for an appropriate site in the city for quite some time, as there is a definite need for such a facility in the area for both businesses and individuals.
“This will be our first purpose-built self-storage centre so it has been fantastic to be able to design it from scratch to best meet the needs of our customers.”
He concluded: “As a family business with Yorkshire roots, set up by my father five decades ago, we pride ourselves on being a good member of the communities we’re based within, and bringing investment to local areas.”
