Housebuilder’s donation gets tails wagging

Goodwood’s charity of the year has had a boost this month, with a £1,000 donation from Barratt Homes.

The housebuilder, which is currently working on its Madgwick Park development just down the road from Goodwood in Chichester, West Sussex, has made Canine Partners the latest recipient of its community fund.

The Barratt and David Wilson Homes Community Fund donates £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation and the fund is part of the company’s pledge to strengthen its ties with the areas in which it is building new homes.

Jon Green, managing director of Barratt Homes, said: “We’ve been working closely with Goodwood since we started work on our Madgwick Park development in Chichester. When they told us about the great work Canine Partners was doing we just had to help. It’s our pleasure to donate to this important charity.”

Gemma Tupper, Community Fundraiser at Canine Partners, said: “We’re delighted to receive such a generous donation from Barratt Homes, which will contribute to our ambitions to grow the number of working dogs we provide to adults with disabilities. We’re also very grateful to Goodwood for their ongoing support and recommendation - they have gone above and beyond for us.”

Canine Partners trains assistance dogs for disabled people at its two centres, one of which is just outside Midhurst in West Sussex. It was chosen by Goodwood staff as its charity of the year and will benefit from fundraising at events across the Goodwood Estate, as well as providing volunteering opportunities for all Goodwood employees.

In addition to various internal fundraising efforts, Goodwood aims to raise money for the cause with events open to all its members, as well as to the public. Ideas range from doggy-themed afternoon teas for four legged guests and their owners at members’ clubhouse The Kennels, to the annual dog show, as well as events at the racecourse and perhaps even a pop-up outdoor cinema in the summer, showing a dog-friendly film.

The Duke of Richmond said: “Our aim is to help transform the lives of as many people as possible by supporting the breeding and training of these remarkable assistance dogs. We’re thrilled that Barratt Homes is joining us in supporting such a worthwhile charity.”
