Charity motorcycle training event raises over £2.5k for ex-military personnel
A motorcycle training event has raised £2,660 for Mission Motorsport, a charity supporting injured soldiers, with the support of local businesses, including leading law firm Simpson Millar.
Rapid Training held the sold-out ‘Mastering the Art of Cornering’ masterclass on Tuesday 23rd July at the 3 Sisters Circuit in Wigan and saw over 40 people attend, with all proceeds going to Mission Motorsport.
The day involved track-based training, aimed specifically at developing road skills, including classroom and track sessions focusing on cornering lines, visual skills, throttle control, steering skills, plus traction and stability.
Launched in 2012, Mission Motorsport aims to use motorsport as a recovery activity for ex-military personnel, and has also seen the charity’s dedicated career managers place more than 130 wounded, injured and sick service leavers into employment since the inaugural Invictus Games in September 2014, and a total of over 1700 veterans have found work through the charity’s programs.
A range of local businesses also got involved and supported the event, including law firm Simpson Millar, who funded the stewards for the event.
Ben Williams at Mission Motorsport: “We are thrilled at this spectacular piece of fundraising by Rapid Training supported by Simpson Millar. As a charity we are entirely reliant on private fundraising and these much-needed funds will have a demonstrable impact on our work with Britain’s wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, allowing us to do more, for more.”
Brian Glover-Smith from Rapid Training said: “It was important to us to help support Mission Motorsport, and we’d like to give a big thank you to everyone who attended the training event and helped us to raise the money.”
Sean McCann, Medical Negligence Solicitor at Simpson Millar, said: “We were delighted to get involved in the event by funding the stewards – the work that Mission Motorsport does for injured ex-military personnel is extremely important, and we were happy to help out. It was a great day, and we really enjoyed meeting the ex-servicemen who took part.”
