This week's Yorkshire appointments
Tom West, CBRE
Leeds-based CBRE has added to its growing valuation team with the appointment of Tom West as surveyor.
Tom will report to senior director Michael Porter to strengthen the valuation offer in the region. Tom joins from Sanderson Weatherall where he worked as a chartered surveyor across many secured lending, accounts purposes and pension fund valuations.
At CBRE, Tom’s main responsibilities will include valuing a wide range of commercial assets for a mixture of banking, property company, REIT and private investor clients.
Michael Porter, senior director for the valuation team at CBRE Leeds, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Tom on board.
“He brings a breadth of valuation experience across a range of sectors from retail, office and industrial, as well as expertise in residential and commercial development schemes and specialist market properties. He will be a great asset to the team.”
Neil Marsden, Pickerings Lifts
Pickerings Lifts has appointed Neil Marsden as service sales and marketing director.
Neil will be responsible for the service sales and marketing teams based across the UK, and will be securing service contracts within the company’s lift, escalator, loading systems and mobility business streams, as well as increasing brand awareness.

Roger Marsh, Institute of Directors
Roger Marsh, chair of Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, has been reappointed to the national council of the Institute of Directors (IoD).
He will serve a further three years after his initial term ended in July 2019. The role of the IoD council is to ensure that the organisation delivers the objectives of its Royal Charter, manages key appointments and holds the board to account.
He has more than 30 years’ experience in business recovery, turnaround and insolvency.
Roger added: “The IoD provides a powerful voice for businesses and their leaders. I am honoured to contribute to matters of national policy through my role on the IoD Council.”
Leanne Macdonald, Lupton Fawcett
Solicitor Leanne Macdonald has joined Lupton Fawcett’s commercial property team in Sheffield to assist with the growing number of instructions being received by the department.
Having specialised in commercial property law since qualifying in 2006, she will be advising clients on areas such as landlord and tenant, acquisitions and disposals, developments, statutory agreements and secured lending and funding.
Speaking about her appointment, Leanne said: “I was keen to join a law firm with a strong and well-respected commercial property department and Lupton Fawcett certainly ticked all the right boxes.
“I am looking forward to working not just on instructions in South Yorkshire but also collaborating with my colleagues in the Leeds and York offices, when required.”
Sam Welch, TransUnion
TransUnion has appointed Sam Welch to its UK executive team, as he joins the business as part of its global strategy and planning function.
Taking up his role as strategy and planning director for TransUnion in the UK, Sam will be responsible for driving its growth agenda, aligned to client needs and market trends.
Sam joins from Experian, where he spent nearly four years in a similar position across both the UK and EMEA, and played an integral role in articulating the strategic direction of the business.
Sam said: “I’m delighted to join TransUnion at such an exciting time and look forward to working closely with the executive team and the wider business to define the UK growth agenda, in line with our global strategy.
“A key part of my role is also driving the execution of the strategy, benefitting both our clients and consumers as we take advantage of the significant market opportunity in front of us.”
