Training specialist’s foodbank fun helps local community

North West skills and training specialist PHX Training is having some fun working raising items for local foodbanks and helping the community along the way.

The company has started a foodbank raffle where each member of staff donates a designated item of food at each training centre for every quarterly meeting to help build supplies at local foodbanks.

David Hurley, PHX Training administrator at Barrow whose idea started the scheme, said: “Foodbanks are used more in the summer holidays with children at home for long periods so this is a real help for them and their families. Everyone has welcomed the idea so it’s great to see my own ideas come to fruition.”

PHX Training managing director Briony Fawcett said: “We see ourselves as part of our communities so this is just an extension of our commitment across our network. We’ve all been having a bit of fun with it knowing we’re helping out less fortunate people locally.”

PHX Training delivers apprenticeship qualifications in business administration skills, offering learners skills for roles such as office executive, office supervisor, membership administrator and personal administrator. Apprenticeships delivered by PHX also include team leading, customer service, hospitality, management and warehousing across the North West.

The company also provides the new employability practitioner standard level four, which has been designed to help develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours of those helping people to address and overcome obstacles to secure suitable and sustainable employment.

As well as apprenticeship training, PHX Training delivers government-backed initiatives, adult skills, NEET (not in education, employment or training), employability contracts and work-based learning programmes.

The PHX team of qualified trainers also deliver a diverse range of resources including offline, online and face-to-face services at six training centres in Barrow, Carlisle, Workington, Morecambe, Preston and Blackpool.
