Innova’s handiwork helps shape Chase Farm as a “digitally advanced” hospital
Wetherby-based healthcare equipment supplier Innova Care Concepts has recently completed and handed over some overhead hoist systems at the newly re-developed £200 million Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield, which has achieved the prestigious status of being one of the most “digitally advanced” hospitals in the United Kingdom.
Having been open since September 2018, Chase Farm was assessed by HIMSS Analytics for the technology it embraces to provide high-quality patient care. Having previously been rated at stage 2, Chase Farm is now classed as a stage 6 facility thanks to its brand-new facilities and equipment.
Part of this development was to install new ceiling track hoist systems that could lift plus-sized patients up to 55 stone in weight. Innova stepped up to the challenge and installed hoist systems that could do just that.
Bob Oliver, Projects Director at Innova, said:
*“When we found out that Chase Farm was aiming to become a digitally advanced hospital, we knew our hoist systems would be perfect. We’ve developed our hoists to be as autonomous as possible so that healthcare professionals can focus solely on the patient and their needs whilst using the hoist. *
“The end result at Chase Farm is really stunning. You barely notice the hoist in the room; the entire hospital just feels incredibly cutting-edge and we’re happy to have played a part in it.“
Innova installed five hoist systems in total; three in private bedrooms that connected through to an ensuite bathroom, one in a multibed bay, and another one in a Changing Places facility located near the hospital reception. Innova hoist systems use magnets and infrared sensors to detect changes in direction on the track, meaning that staff and carers do not have to worry about any pulleys or levers to alter the path of the hoist.
Only two other NHS hospitals are currently classed as stage 6, with stage 7 being the highest possible rating. Chase Farm is part of the Royal Free London group, which was selected by NHS England in 2016 to employ and develop new technologies to provide the best care possible.
