Job vacancies drop in the South West in the run up to Brexit

Professional vacancies have decreased since this time last year across the South West. That is according to new research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), the leading trade body representing the recruitment sector.

However, the data, provided by recruitment software company, Innovantage, which analyses monthly hiring trends in the UK, reveals that the dip in job openings is relatively low. Demand decreased by just 1%, meaning that the region is still performing better than many areas, such as the West Midlands, East Midland and the North East.

Commenting on the data, Julie Selby, Regional Account Manager at APSCo said:

“The South West region has always been fantastic areas for job opportunities, however, with Brexit around the corner, it’s no surprise that vacancy growth has stalled. Despite the overall dip, there are still many pockets of positivity. The accounting and finance sector is booming, with job openings up by 33% and the banking and insurance sector too, with vacancies up by 23%.”
