Job vacancies plummet in the North East in the run up to Brexit
Professional vacancies have decreased 11% since this time last year across the North East. That is according to new research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), the leading trade body representing the recruitment sector.
However, the data, provided by recruitment software company, Innovantage, which analyses monthly hiring trends in the UK, reveals that there are still many pockets of positivity. The HR and legal sectors are performing particularly well, with vacancies rising 33% and 16% respectively.
Commenting on the data, Moya Rylands, Regional Director at APSCo said:
“The wider North East region has always been a fantastic area for job opportunities, however, with Brexit around the corner, it’s no surprise that vacancy growth has stalled. With businesses still unsure of what is to come following October 31st, many firms are holding back on growing their workforce until they have a better understanding of what to expect. Once the political landscape has settled, it can be assumed that vacancies will be rising again.”
