Taylor&Emmet shares Scarborough art for exhibition

A painting depicting the 150-year history of Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet LLP is being enjoyed by thousands of people across the city, as part of a Joe Scarborough retrospective.

The original work is one of more than 60 paintings by the revered local artist currently on display in the ‘Life in the Big Village’ exhibition at Weston Park Museum.

Taylor&Emmet’s painting was commissioned 12 years ago, after the opportunity arose in a charity auction for Whirlow Hall Farm Trust. Mr Scarborough spent several months researching the firm’s background with the help of former partners and it features its offices, past and present, alongside a number of local landmarks.

The piece, which is usually on display at Taylor&Emmet’s Arundel Gate headquarters, is currently on loan to Museums Sheffield until the retrospective ends in November.

Lee Stacey, Taylor&Emmet’s facilities manager, said: “When we heard the first major Joe Scarborough retrospective for 25 years was being organised by Museums Sheffield, we jumped at the chance to take part. The firm is very proud to own an original piece by such a popular local artist and it brings pleasure to visitors to our office daily. However, it is a real joy to see it sitting alongside other works, celebrating not only the talent of such a prolific painter, but also his unique take on life in our home city.”

Taylor&Emmet appears in a second painting within the Scarborough collection, a 2006 piece entitled ‘Things we do for Weston Park Hospital.’ The firm is one of a number of local institutions to feature, recognising their support of the specialist cancer centre.
