Undergraduates and graduates embark on placements with leading North East firms

Some of the North East’s leading companies have come together to deliver a programme of activities to deliver real world experience to undergraduate students and graduates. Three students have joined the businesses, Northumbrian Water, Esh-Stantec, Turner & Townsend, Interserve, MMB, and Wood, for a year with their teams, while a further five are taking part in their paid shared summer placement programme. Each will rotate their time among the various businesses in the group and will be paid a living wage while receiving invaluable skills and experience on real life construction projects. Richard Woodhouse, Asset Investment Programme Manager at Northumbrian Water, said: “This is the fifth year of our Shared Summer Placement programme, and the second intake of year-long placements, which build on this and will see the students become an integral part of our team. “The programme brings together great companies with driven, enthusiastic young people who are excited to learn from our people and bring their own insights to what we do.” The programme has the support of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Association for Project Management.
