Building careers with Barratt Developments North East!
Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, is helping two local students to kick-start their careers in the housing industry through its unique apprenticeship scheme.
As part of its ongoing apprenticeship partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, the five star housebuilder is offering paid-for degree programmes. The initiative will allow students to gain unparalleled experience in the construction industry, whilst obtaining the qualifications they need to flourish their careers.
20-year-old Luke Warnett is one of Barratt Developments’ most recent apprentices, who is beginning his three year BSc (Hons) in Professional Practice in Residential Development and Quantity Surveying course. As part of his apprenticeship, Luke has two sites of his own to manage, meaning that he spends his day-to-day routine processing payments, completing valuations and regularly visiting the sites. Luke hopes to progress to a Quantity Surveyor at Barratt Developments North East once his degree is complete.
Also benefiting from the scheme is 20-year-old Ryan Dawson. Having just completed his Higher National Certificate (HNC), Ryan has spent the last four years implementing his theory work at college into real practical work at the two developments he currently manages. Since gaining his qualifications, Ryan has been promoted to Assistant Quantity Surveyor within the company.
In addition to working on real time projects, the apprentices will spend their time rotating through four different departments to gain a full understanding of how Barratt Developments works, as well as having a senior mentor to support their progression throughout the course.
Ryan Lincoln, Commercial Director at Barratt Developments North East, commented: “We’re always on the lookout for the next generation of leaders to keep us at the forefront of the construction industry. We’re so pleased to be able to offer paid-for degree programmes so that students can gain invaluable experience on real projects. We look forward to seeing both Luke and Ryan develop their knowledge and implement their skills with us!”
