Hortor staff stride out in support of the stroke association

Lucy Price and Kim Donaldson, Account Assistant and Recruiter at Hortor, the global strategic resourcing specialist with offices in Leeds and London, will put their best foot forward when they take part in the Great North Run to raise money for the Stroke Association.

Taking on the half marathon challenge, which takes place in Newcastle in September, the pair have chosen to support the cause after personally experiencing the effects strokes can have on family members whilst also seeing first-hand the positive work the charity delivers.

Kim, who has worked at Hortor for more than 18 months, comments: “Last year, my Dad, Peter, suffered a stroke at the age of 61. This has left him unable to complete daily tasks that we all take for granted.

“With the help of this charity he is making a slow recovery. They have helped him by offering rehabilitation services and have introduced him to fellow survivors who have suffered similar problems. The Stroke Association have also helped him cope mentally by offering emotional support.”

Hortor gave £500 to both Kim and Lucy to start the donations for their charity challenge, whilst also providing them with office space to host a number of fundraising events.

Lucy, who has almost completed two years at Hortor, comments: “Strokes are more common that people realise. The services the charity provide are vital for getting people back on their feet. With this intervention, they can improve the lives of those effected by this debilitating medical condition.”

The pair, who are running three times a week in preparation for the big race, initially set out a goal to raise £500 each. However, their fundraising efforts have already seen them collect more than £1,500 for the Stroke Association.

Lucy and Kim join colleagues from across the Hortor business that take part in year-round efforts to raise money for charities that mean something to them.

As an example, earlier this month Chris Canning, Head of Practice CX and Intelligence for Hortor in London, cycled a total of 336 miles in support of The Connection in St Martin-in-the-Fields, a homeless organisation supporting rough sleepers in London.

Founding Director at Hortor, Andy Roe, comments: “We take great pride at Hortor in promoting a culture which sees all staff members support each other in and out of the office, especially when they are helping raise money for such important causes.

“I have no doubt that the dedication and hard work Lucy and Kim demonstrate in the office will be easily transferred into their training preparations for such a demanding challenge. Everyone at Hortor is wishing Lucy and Kim the best of luck for the Great North Run and we know they will do themselves proud.”
