Job vacancies plummet across West Midlands in the run up to Brexit

Professional vacancies have decreased 6% since this time last year across the West Midlands. That is according to new research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), the leading trade body representing the recruitment sector.

However, the data, provided by recruitment software company, which analyses monthly hiring trends in the UK, reveals that there are still many pockets of positivity. The HR and accounting & finance sectors are performing particularly well, with vacancies rising 28% and 14% respectively.

Commenting on the data, Julie Selby, Regional Account Manager at APSCo said:

“Despite an overall drop in vacancies, I am still confident to say that the wider West Midlands is a fantastic region for job opportunities. With Brexit around the corner, it’s no surprise that demand has stalled. With businesses still unsure of what is to come following October 31st, many firms are holding back on growing their workforce until they have a better understanding of what to expect. Once the political landscape has settled, it can be assumed that vacancies will be rising again.”
