Housebuilder supports the bees with community funding initiative
Local five star housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East, has launched a new initiative designed to support charities and organisations in the areas in which it builds. The Community Fund sees the housebuilder donate £1,000 each month to a community group or charity across the North East region. As part of the new scheme, the housebuilder is supporting Pegswood Community Beekeeping Club, near to the new Barratt Homes’ Blossom Park development.
The housebuilder’s £1,000 donation will contribute towards rebuilding the office and classroom used by the club members. The donation aims to build and strengthen the community club, which is open to all residents of Pegswood and the surrounding area, who are interested in honey bees, beekeeping and the environment.
What’s more, the wildlife friendly garden at Blossom Park’s show home has been fitted with a variety of features to cater to the local wildlife, including a bee hotel that provides a home for bumble bees on the development. This was designed in line with RSPB standards, working towards a silver level accreditation, as part of the housebuilder’s partnership with RSPB.
Christie Edge, Sales Manager at Barratt Homes’ Blossom Park development, commented, “The Community Fund initiative allows us to support local community groups and charities around our developments, and so we were delighted to donate this month’s fund to support the fantastic work that Pegswood Community Beekeeping Club do for the local community!”
Fenwick Rice, a representative from Pegswood Community Beekeeping Club, commented: “As a small community group we are always grateful for donations and we thank Barratt Homes deeply for their generous contribution. It will truly make a difference and help us to carry on with our mission to save the bees and spark an interest in beekeeping amongst our community.”
