On your marks, get set, go! Local housebuilder encourages exercise amongst secondary school students in the Great School Sprint!
Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East, is encouraging children to get exercising, spend more time outdoors and have fun whilst doing it. As part of this, the five star housebuilder supported the 2019 Great School Sprints programme as the exclusive additional event partner. This saw schools all across Tees Valley compete to crown the champion of the fastest boy and girl in the North East.
A group of Barratt Homes representatives attended The Tees Valley City Final on Friday to showcase their support of the 350 girls and boys from each school in the city, who went head to head in two rounds of heats and semi-finals. This was followed with a masterclass led by world-class athletes including British track and field sprinters Cindy Ofili and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake.
The finalists then competed on the Saturday morning on a specially constructed track as part of the Great City Games, in an exhilarating final race, with Tyler Crosby and Beth Sullock taking the titles of the fastest boy and fastest girl in the North East.
Nine volunteers from Barratt Homes North East competed in the Great Tees 10k on Saturday, having raised over £900 for their Charity of the Year, Asthma UK.
Fenton Hewitt, Sales Director at Barratt Developments North East, commented: “It has been a pleasure to be the exclusive event partner of the Great School Sprints! With the health of children and young people being a pressing topic, we are keen to support the physical education of future generations in any way that we can. We’d like to say a huge congratulations to all of the students who have got involved in the 2019 Great School Sprints!”
