New £2.5m industrial development for SMEs is coming to Barnsley
Construction work has begun on a £2.5m industrial development in Barnsley.
Commercial property developers Priority Space, in partnership with H.G Sites, is taking on the speculative development on Barrowfield Road in Thurnscoe at the site of the former Hickleton Colliery, which shut in 1988.
Barrowfield Business Park will contain 16 units for SMEs, providing approximately 25,000 sq ft of workspace. The accommodation provided will be for light industrial, general industrial or storage and distribution. The units are available to purchase or lease.
Lee Buchanan, co-director at Barnsley-based Priority Space, said: “We are excited to put forward a development that transforms a former mining site into business units which will bring investment and create jobs for the local economy.
“We care passionately about regenerating areas and delivering high-quality, accessible business space which will help drive growth, business opportunities and provide a boost to the local community.”
Meanwhile, Barnsdales and Commercial Property Partners (CPP) have been appointed as joint agents for the scheme.
The development is funded by the Sheffield City Region Jessica Fund, which is managed by CBRE Capital Advisors. Barnsley Council assisted Priority Space in securing funding.
Councillor Tim Cheetham, Barnsley Council’s Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, added: “As part of our Jobs and Business Plan to help Barnsley businesses to thrive, we aim to help create an additional 17,000 jobs by 2033.
“We are therefore extremely excited to see the new development at Barrowfield Business Park get underway and can’t wait to welcome new businesses to the borough or support local companies in their growth.”
