‘Tee’ing off for charity
A local developer is putting something back into the community, funding much needed resources for Bristol Children’s Hospital Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
Proving charity begins at home, Wainhomes (Severn Valley) Limited teed off, raising an impressive £7,500 towards new kitchen facilities and a social space for the parents of the South West’s most critically ill children.
Hosted at the Kendleshire Golf Club, the event attracted over 120 contractors and partners. The money raised for The Grand Appeal – the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity – will help establish an invaluable resource for relatives and carers of the babies and youngsters being looked after at PICU, which treats 800 patients every year.
Known as the Seahorse Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, with 18 beds it is one of the largest for children in the UK. It offers lifesaving, round-the-clock care to children of all ages from newborn babies to teenagers; some following open heart surgery and others with a range of conditions including breathing problems, meningitis and injuries from serious accidents.
Maxine Moustrides, Corporate Fundraiser from The Grand Appeal said: “We are so appreciative of Wainhomes’ amazing support and money they’ve raised. This is not just about offering more modern kitchen facilities. It’s about providing parents /caregivers of critically ill children in our unit a place where they can meet others experiencing the same difficulties, a space where they can talk, take a break or have a quiet moment of reflection.”
Emma Butcher, Regional Head of Sales with Wainhomes (Severn Valley) Limited added: “We are proud to be able to play a small part in supporting the families/caregivers going through unimaginably challenging times with their loved ones in PICU. As a company we are keen to work with local charities and causes that mean a lot to the communities in which we operate.”
