London-based digital staffing platform for schools raises £5.6m Series-A

A London-based edtech platform for teachers and schools has just raised £5.6m in a Series A platform to help tackle teacher shortages.

Zen Educate is a cost-effective alternative to traditional ‘pen and paper’ recruitment agencies and is currently working with around 10 per cent of London’s schools.

It’s online only platform links teachers and schools directly, making savings of between 20 to 30 per cent in terms of supply cover costs. In total, Zen Educate says it has saved the education system £600,000 since it launched in 2017 and aims to save schools £2m by the end of the year.

Zen Educate CEO Slava Kremerman said “UK schools are under an immense amount of financial pressure right now, that’s why we’re committed to cutting down supply cover costs significantly so they can spend more on what matters – the children- not on agency fees. By removing the middleman, teachers and schools can cover staff absence with ease, reducing uncertainty, increasing wages and saving costs”.

The funding was led by Brighteye Ventures, Europe’s largest education technology venture capital firm.
