Former leisure site on Gateshead Quayside to undergo transformation with council approval

Plans for premium office space on the site of the former Baja Beach Club on Gateshead Quayside have been approved.

Submitted by local property company, Adderstone Group, the plans have been approved by Gateshead Council Planners.

Gateshead Council granted approval today (September 25) for the 29,245 sq ft Grade A office space. It is set to have a full height glass frontage giving views directly across the River Tyne.

Located on Pipewellgate on the Gateshead Quayside, the building was known as Baja Beach Club until the venue closed its doors in 2008.

Adderstone Group has been working with Ryder Architecture and Gateshead Council on office proposals for the site which will contribute to the continuing redevelopment of Gateshead Quayside, linking this part of the river with other key developments including the Sage Gateshead, BALTIC and the new Gateshead Arena which is set to be delivered in 2023.

Adderstone Group’s CEO, Ian Baggett, added: “I’d like to thank Ryder Architecture and Gateshead Council for sharing and supporting our vision to reshape this prominent site on the Quayside.

“We hope to start work immediately, employing hundreds of local lads on what is a very technical project to deliver one of the coolest office developments in the region.”
