The Great Miller Bake Off Cooks Up A Treat For Macmillan Charity
As Bake-Off fever continues to sweep the country this autumn, a Yorkshire based housebuilder hosted its own challenge to coincide with The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Charity.
The entire Yorkshire Miller Homes team, based in Wakefield, were invited to contribute to the competition and enter their homemade wares into one of four categories, Showstopper, Buns and Cupcakes and Traybake; with even the non-bakers being able to join in the Crispie Cake Challenge, all in aid of a good cause!
“We had a fantastic morning and there was much anticipation when the runners up and star bakers were announced!” said Debbie Whittingham, Sales Director, Miller Homes Yorkshire. “Our overall winner was the wife of Commercial Director, Justin Tranmere whose Showstopper, a towering lemon and raspberry sponge, really impressed our judges.”
The judging session was undertaken by fellow Miller colleagues Chris Land (Paul Hollywood) and Andy Gorrod (Pru Leith) who were joined by two guest judges who assumed the roles of Sandy and Noel. The two runners up in each category received a wooden spoon, the winner a Star Baker spoon and apron and the overall winner a voucher for Marks and Spencer. Almost £150 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support on the day.
“There were some amazing bakes and everyone had really taken time and lots of effort to join in with the fun,” said Debbie. “We hope that this will become an annual event with the competitive ones amongst us battling it out for the top spot next year.”
