Local care and support workers recognised

Last week marked a special evening for local home care provider Caremark (Winchester and Eastleigh) as the team celebrated its first ever Carers Awards Evening to honour its dedicated care and support workers.

Presented by the Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Darshan Mann, the awards celebrated those who had gone above and beyond in the eyes of clients and colleagues alike.

The award recipients were: • Carer of the Year - Jade Baker • Newcomer of the Year - Anita Tawiah • Carers’ Carer of the Year - Judyta Jucha

Carer of the Year, which went to Jade at just 21 years old, was voted for by clients who were given photos to help them select the care and support workers. Speaking passionately, one of Jade’s clients described her as “truly superb, kind, sensitive, respectful and bubbly”, going on to add, “She is wise beyond her years and should be seen as a role model.”

Anita, 25, took home the Newcomer of the Year award after being nominated by her colleagues. One care and support worker said, “Anita is a fantastic, energetic and, above all, kind team player.”

The Carers’ Carer of the Year award was scooped by Judyta, 37, whose colleagues described her as “Amazing, helpful and simply a lovely person.”

The award winners each took home an engraved glass plaque, a certificate of appreciation and a bouquet of flowers.

Calum Gray, Managing Director of Caremark Eastleigh and Winchester said, “It was so lovely to see so many in attendance to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our care and support workers. We have an exceptional team and without them we would be unable to provide the highest quality of care in our local community.”

The event, held at the Fox and Hounds pub, was attended by special guests including Rachel Rawlings on behalf of The Countess Mountbatten Hospice Charity and NVQ Assessor Angie Long from Kiwi Training.

The evening included a raffle in aid of The Countess of Mountbatten Hospice Charity, Caremark’s designated charity, with numerous prizes to be won including many donated by local companies. “We raised over £100 in total. It was amazing to be able to give this directly to the charity on the night,” said Calum.
