RSPB award for Stonehouse development

Work to support wildlife at a new community in Stonehouse has received an award from the RSPB.

David Wilson Homes has been presented with a silver award from the national charity for its work to support wildlife in show home gardens at its Great Oldbury development in Stonehouse.

It follows an assessment of show home gardens at the development, which follow the RSPB’s pillars for supporting wildlife. These include providing food with nectar and pollen rich plants, providing water, shelter and boundaries which enable animals to move around freely.

The RSPB also judges efforts to protect wildlife by using peat-free compost and supports housebuilders in spreading the word about what they have done and encouraging new residents to be wildlife friendly.

All new customers are provided with their own guide to wildlife-friendly gardening written by the experts at the RSPB.

The show home gardens at Great Oldbury have features including a bird box, bee box, water butt, flowers for a scented garden and a bird bath and table.

Louise Ware, sales director at David Wilson Homes, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to achieve the silver award from the RSPB here at Great Oldbury. Supporting local wildlife is important to us and we’re pleased to see our new community is providing a great place to live for birds and insects, as well as homebuyers.”

Across the UK David Wilson Homes Homes and the RSPB are working together to deliver more wildlife friendly housing, that is already starting to change how homes are built and neighbourhoods are designed, creating spaces that are welcoming to people and wildlife.
