Somerset maternity project to benefit from housebuilders’ Community Fund donation

Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes are working with Love Musgrove - the official charity of Musgrove Park Hospital - to help provide equipment for its Maternity Improvement Project.

The five star housebuilder has donated £1,000 from its Community Fund, to be spent on modernising and upgrading the unit in Taunton.

“Love Musgrove does an excellent job, providing services and equipment to complement those provided by the hospital - and fundraising is critical to the work its team carries out,” said Nicki Read, sales director from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.

“As an established part of the Somerset community, with new homes developments nearby, we are delighted to be able to help this worthy cause.”

The Community Fund is a dedicated resource for backing local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region. The money will be used to pay for a cot in the Maternity Unit.

Zoe Steer, head of fundraising at Love Musgrove, added: “This donation will make a huge difference to the hospital and the Maternity Improvement Project. The Maternity Unit and its existing facilities were built just after the war in the 1940s. The project will redefine, modernise, expand and upgrade the current facilities.

“3,155 babies were born at Musgrove in 2018. The project will improve the excellent service already offered to expectant mums and their families across the county, by building and equipping brand new dedicated recovery bays - allowing mum and baby to stay together. There will be a new reception area, with a modern, welcoming, comforting and relaxing area. We will also upgrade the Antenatal Clinic.

“The project will include a child’s play area, recliner chairs so partners can stay, and new cots to encourage close and loving relationships - supporting parents to be close to their baby and attend to their needs.
