National contractor named for 140-home York development

City of York Council has announced the appointment of a national housebuilder to develop 140 new homes in the area.

Wates Group has been contracted to deliver 140 homes at the Lowfield Green development in the city.

The landscaped site comprise over an acre of open public space, starter and family homes, wheelchair-accessible bungalows and apartments for over-55s.

Construction on the homes, 40 per cent of which will be classed as affordable housing, is scheduled to begin next month.

David Wingfield, business unit director of Wates Construction North East and Yorkshire, commented: “Our growing portfolio in York is a testament to our reputation as a trusted and expert contractor across a diverse range of sectors and to our close network of supply chain partners in the city and the wider North Yorkshire.
