Apprenticeships add up for Sunderland accountants

A NORTH EAST accountancy firm is counting on young talent after recruiting two apprentices.

Sunderland firm TTR Barnes has welcomed John Aitken and Jack Stevenson to its accounts and auditing team.

23-year-old John completed an Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) diploma to become a qualified accountant before making the move to TTR.

The Northumbria University graduate is now in his first year of an ACA qualification, a three-year programme which will see him qualify as a fully chartered accountant.

John, who hails from South Shields, said: “TTR has a great reputation in the North East and as not many firms offer the ACA qualification, joining the team was a no-brainer.”

Fellow trainee Jack, 23, moved to TTR Barnes after a two-week work experience placement at the firm.

The Gateshead resident completed a mathematics degree at the University of Sheffield before starting his apprenticeship programme.

David Cook, director of TTR Barnes, said: “At TTR we’re committed to training the accountants of the future and I’m delighted to have John and Jack on the team.

“It’s important to the ongoing growth of our firm that we continuously invest in young talent and bring a new perspective to the company.

“John and Jack have already made huge contributions to the team and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow and develop.”

TTR Barnes, which is the largest chartered accountancy firm in Sunderland, employs around 30 staff at its Grange Terrace offices.
