Developer acquires HMRC HQ site for £60m residential scheme
A national firm has purchased the site of the former headquarters of HM Revenue and Customs in the South East for a new residential development.
Weston Homes has acquired Portcullis House, formerly a regional headquarters for HMRC, located at 27 Victoria Avenue in Southend-on-Sea.
The firm plans to redevelop the site into a £60m residential-led scheme, known as Victoria Central, comprising 217 one, two and three bedroom apartments, a landscaped courtyard, entrance foyer and 275 sq m of ground floor commercial space.
Weston Homes has secured planning permission for the project, which comes as the town is set to receive government funds as part of the Thames Estuary Production Corridor government project, aiming to unlock transformational, culture-led growth across North Kent and South Essex.
Bob Weston, Chairman & Executive of Weston Homes, says “Weston Homes are elated to have received planning consent to transform the former site of Portcullis House into a development of beautifully designed apartments.
“Following the success of several of our developments in the area of Southend, we are incredibly excited to be expanding our portfolio within the area, and hope for continued success at the scheme.”
