£59m Homes England project set to deliver over 350 new Teesside properties

Planning consent has been granted for a new housing development on Teesside.

The £59m, 375-home project - on land to the west of Kirkleatham Lane, Redcar - will be constructed by Galliford Try Partnerships North, in collaboration with Homes England, which currently owns the site.

Approved by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, 80 of the properties are to be developed for private rent at market level and 108 for affordable rent and shared ownership. The partners that will provide these homes will be announced later.

The remaining 187 homes would be built for open market sale through Galliford Try’s house building division, Linden Homes.

Sean Egan, managing director for Galliford Try Partnerships North, said: “This new project has come about as part of our company wide strategy to work with Homes England to tackle UK housing need.

“We have been able to bring forward a proposal that will deliver high quality new homes on a superb site on Teesside, offering choice for local people - be they looking to buy, rent privately or to rent via a social housing provider.

“We are in discussion with potential partners to provide the affordable rented and shared ownership homes and hope to be able to announce more details in the near future.

“This latest scheme is one of eight major projects secured in recent months, driving business growth and protecting and creating jobs and training opportunities throughout the North East.”

The new project is said to be the largest of eight projects recently secured by Galliford Try Partnerships North, which will see the creation of just over 1,000 homes, with a total gross development value of £180m, over the next five years.

Galliford Try Partnerships North’s new projects include another Teesside initiative: a £62m, 350 mixed tenure development adjacent to the James Cook University Hospital in the Brackenhoe area of south Middlesbrough; and other developments in Darlington, Gateshead, Peterlee and Washington.
