£60m Gateshead hotel and residential development gets green light
Planning approval has been granted for a £60m hotel and residential scheme in Gateshead which could create up to 50 jobs.
Developer Elliot Group has secured planning permission for a 202 bed hotel, as well as 244 apartments and a rooftop garden, on the corner of Mill Road and Hawks Road next to the quayside.
The developer’s original plans for a mid-rise apartment tower, which were submitted in July, were scrapped after the unveiling of the Gateshead Quays project, comprising a new arena, convention centre and associated leisure offer on a neighbouring site between the Sage and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
It is anticipated that the development will create up to 50 jobs when the site is fully operational.
Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group commented: “Gateshead Quays is a game-changer and we amended our original proposals in light of its progress.
“I’m delighted with the approval and we’re very much looking forward to playing our part in the area’s on-going regeneration.”
