Five star housebuilder gives back to the local community
18 employees from Barratt Developments North East have taken time out of their busy schedules to help redecorate the Hazlerigg and District War Memorial Community Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, as part of their Donate a Day volunteering programme. The initiative, which all Barratt Developments employees can take part in, enables volunteers to spend a day assisting with local community projects.
Placed within the heart of the community, Hazlerigg and District War Memorial Community Centre is home to a variety of activities including parent and toddler groups, coffee mornings and Parish Council meetings. Employees from both the Sales and Land teams spent two days volunteering at the local centre, repainting the Main Hall, as part of the community centre’s major refurbishment project. The newly painted room has provided the centre with a refreshed space for all visitors to enjoy.
In addition to the volunteering activity, Barratt Developments North East has also donated £1,000 towards the wider renovation of the community centre, as part of the housebuilder’s ongoing Community Fund initiative. Launched earlier this year, the scheme allows Barratt Developments to support local organisations and charities in the areas in which it builds.
Neil Milburn, Development Director at Barratt Developments North East, commented: “We were delighted to be able to support the Hazlerigg and District War Memorial Community Centre by volunteering to update the space, and we’re so pleased that the team are happy with the results! Here at Barratt Developments North East, we always work really hard to give back to the communities that we build in and the Donate A Day and Community Fund schemes are just a couple of initiatives which allow us to do so. We look forward to seeing the positive impact that the refurbished space will have on the community who rely so much on it.”
Natasha Paley, Fundraiser and Events Manager at Hazlerigg and District War Memorial Community Centre commented: “We’re extremely grateful to all of the team members at Barratt Developments North East who have taken the time to support the renovation of the centre. It’s wonderful to see a local housebuilder getting involved with the community and their generous donation will truly make a difference towards the refurbishment.”
