‘Sustainable incubator’ launches in Mayfair following £5m building restoration
A new cultural hub and sustainable community market is set to launch today (Nov 7) in London’s Mayfair.
Mercato Mayfair will officially open its doors today in the newly restored St Mark’s building on North Audley Street in North Mayfair.
Offering a range of sustainable cuisine from around the world, the market will serve as an incubator for food startups.
In addition, the market will also have a rooftop terrace, as well as community spaces for projects, exhibitions and music events.
This is the second London site from sustainable market specialist Mercato Metropolitano, following the opening of its Elephant & Castle site, which welcomed 3 million visitors last year and has incubated over 40 food startups to date.
Andrea Rasca, founder and ‘chief executive dreamer’ commented: “Mayfair is a fashionable and elegant area, but it has a diverse population and alongside its wealth there are people who are struggling.
“With Mercato Mayfair, we are trying to create a place that is accessible to everyone – built with and for the community.
“Mercato Mayfair will be a space for the people to come together to meet, eat, learn and listen. Like our first UK site in Elephant & Castle, the market will provide good, natural and nutritious food that is sustainably sourced.
“Part incubator, part cultural hub, Mercato Mayfair will support up-and-coming food entrepreneurs from around the world, as well as local talent.”
