Housebuilder supports The Royal British Legion North East with funding initiative
Local five star housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East, which includes both the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has launched an initiative designed to support charities and organisations in the areas in which it builds. The Community Fund sees the housebuilder donate £1,000 each month to a community group or charity across the North East region. In honour of Remembrance Sunday later this month, Barratt Developments is offering its support to The Royal British Legion North East by presenting the £1,000 cheque to soldiers Corbin Kane and Steward Herd at Barratt Homes’ nearby North Gosforth Park development.
The £1,000 donation will contribute towards providing lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families within the North East. This includes providing expert advice, recovery and rehabilitation, as well as offering guidance for the transition to civilian life every step of the way.
To further support Remembrance Sunday, Barratt Developments North East’s Head Office and all 21 sites across the region currently have a poppy collection box in each sales office, to raise awareness and donations for The Royal British Legion.
Barratt Developments also offers its award-winning Armed Forces programme to help support ex-military who are keen to begin a career in housebuilding. The programme teaches essential construction skills, people management and self-development, building on applicants’ existing skills gained during careers in the Army, Navy or RAF. During the 12-month programme, recruits have the opportunity to work across a number of areas, including supporting the Site Manager in coordinating trades, labour and materials to meet production deadlines.
Christie Edge, Sales Manager at Barratt Homes, commented: “The Community Fund initiative allows us to support local community groups and charities around our developments, and so we were delighted to donate this month’s fund to support the fantastic work that The Royal British Legion North East do for the local area. With Remembrance Sunday just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to honour those who lost their lives during active service, and we encourage everybody across the region to visit one of our nearby sales offices to pick up their poppy and wear it with pride.”
Louise Price, Fundraiser at The Royal British Legion North East, commented: “I would like to extend my thanks to Barratt Developments for its generous donation and support. It’s great to see the housebuilder offering support to ex-military personnel through its incredible Armed Forces programme, and we hope that together, we can help make the transition into civilian life as smooth as possible.”
