Local housebuilder leaves green footprints across Yorkshire

Barratt Developments Yorkshire East and West, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has been leaving green footprints across Yorkshire this year by implementing environmentally friendly practices and giving nature a home at its new developments, as well as investing in local communities.

The divisions collectively built 1,516 new homes during 2019, recycled 97% of construction waste and invested £6.8million in communities through local contributions.

As well as investing a further £26million in physical works, such as environmental and highway improvements, the housebuilder focused on creating homes for nature as well as people. More than 67,273 trees and shrubs were planted or retained on developments and the divisions also created 17.2 hectares of greenspace across the region, equivalent to 879 tennis courts, to help support wildlife on and around its sites.

Peter Morris, Development Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, said: “As a five-star housebuilder, sustainable building is a key consideration throughout the development process. We are very aware of the effect our work can have on the local environment and community, and we are extremely dedicated to developing more environmentally friendly processes that take care of the communities we build in.”

Ian Ruthven, Managing Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, said: “Supporting the communities in which we build is at the heart of everything we do. During 2019, 3,484 jobs were supported directly and indirectly through our work, with 1,290 sub-contractor companies and a further 820 supplier companies supported. We are delighted to end the year with so many positive achievements.”
